| Lately Tim and I were thinking it would be nice a night or two a week after sparring if some guys stayed for a little bit to work on takedowns, shrugs, ankle picks, throws, arm drags and anything that will take your opponent from standing to the mat. Anyone interested? |

| In my experience, open invitations never work. What is far better is to lead by example. At the end of class, just before you and Tim begin to work moves, extend an invitation to everyone else on the mat. You'll be sure to get a following of people using this method. Whereas using an open invitation, you'll be sure to get several Message Board only students talking about how great an idea this is, and yet not a single "after class" training session will ever occur. |

Chuck and I got in a few minutes takedown practice last night after sparring class, and will hopefully continue to do so...

Highly recommend drilling takedowns.
I usually start class here with 20-30 minutes of takedowns... drop saganagi's, trips, double legs, single legs, concrete mixer, several different judo takedowns and trips, as well as drilling takedown defense, falling and a drill where the person being taken down has to make something out of the fall.
Drill passing the guard too. Especiall if you took your man down and he trying to put you in the guard... pass before he hits the floor. _________________ Head BJJ Instructor

The after-class takedown session on Thursday night was kickass! There were like 8 of us there playing King of the mountain at one point. Hopefully we can do this more often. I'll be available for this on Thursdays and Saturdays after class and probably Mondays as well.

I agree this is usually the case, but the open invitation still stands! Anyone who would like to train takedowns is welcome to come, regardless of skill level. It would be pretty awesome to have enough people there for 2 circles of king of the mountain, or just to have a large variety of potential training partners. |

| This is rediculos you don't need to practice take downs you need to practice the force. You should mental make your opponent want ot lay on the mat for you!!!! I point to the spot they lay!!! Mike, Howie, and Tim go ahead take it to a perveted level. |

| Just wanted to give this thread a bump. I'm willing to stay and work takedowns any night if the week. |

Thanks for bumping this. I had problems with my takedowns in the last 2 tournaments so I was planning to train them more heavily again, starting this week.
Saturday is ideal because we have plenty of time after sparring, but I'm usually around on Thursdays and sometimes on Mondays. David left for school so I no longer have a dedicated drilling partner. Let's get this going again, guys! |

I really need to practice that.
Anybody interested, just let me know after the classes.
(unless it's too late and they close the place)
I'm always up to drilling anything anytime, so anybody interested on that too, same thing, just let me know, and we can practice after the class.
I don't mind being as long as we need practicing one particular move paying attention to the details.
I usually do that with Rob Arthur on mondays before the advanced class and Tony Morell after the mixed levels class on tuesday mornings. _________________ *
