I had mentioned on Ben's thread that I wanted to develop an application that enabled schools, individuals, and organizations to have a one-stop place to post up tournaments but before I spend too much time developing said application, I wanted to see if anyone knew of something of the sort already?
The plan would be to make a tool that enabled schools and organizations to host tournaments. Students could register and associate with a team and then select which tournaments they intended to attend. Their name would appear for other members of their school who view the tournament as tentatively attending or definite. For people from other schools it would just say something like Capital Jiu Jitsu (5 attending).
Events could be scheduled out in advance of 1 year and people would have the ability to select this matches as well giving the event coordinators are rough estimate as to interest in the event.
You would be able to search on a series of criteria, state, divisions, host, number of people attending, etc. You could also rate a tournament and host on various points.

| Sounds like a good idea. Im sure you would get a lot of positive feedback from something like that. Im sure I would use it, as well as many others here. |

Conceptually, it sounds like a cool idea to me. However, I have noticed that most events go hand and hand with sponsorship/advertising. How would you deal with this? If you allow sponsorship/advertising, you have a whole bunch of logistics to deal with, not the least of which would be the financial side. If you do not allow sponsorship/advertising, you may find some tournaments might not be 'allowed' to post where their sponsors cannot advertise. Food for thought. _________________ Sometimes the cards aren't worth a dime if you don't lay them down... |

Already considered that and corporate logos.
The site would be run entirely off of donations and google ads, no sponsorship, eliminating any conflicts in sponsors. The tournament host would be free to advertise as long as it was in good taste. _________________ Pong 4 life!!1! |

| If i am not mistaken there are a couple of these already but none of them are publisized. So if/when you make it make sure you talk with the forums and most schools to get the website out there maybe even have the tournament directors put the website on thier flyers to help get hte name out. |

Yeah that was my concern, if there is already a bunch of sites like this, I have desire to waste my efforts trying to build them.
I'd start it when my own capital and the only costs would be monthly hosting fees and the initial design costs which shouldn't be too high. But regardless I value my time and I don't want to see it put into a site that is just another copy of X number of sites.
The problem I find with a lot of these sites is they become homes to tons of advertisements in an attempt to generate revenue and get some money in the pocket of the owner. I'm looking to create a self sustaining site that'll will be brought to the users by the users, I'm not looking to generate profit. Any excess money will probably be donated. _________________ Pong 4 life!!1! |

There are a few sites out there that do this, like www.icompete.org and www.bjjzone.com. Then, the RATED site also lists all of the RATED events that are coming up. Same for the NAGA site.
One day, in the not too distant future, the US Grappling site is going to have all of these things, and more. Sean, if you're interested in getting involved in helping us develop it (web developers have turned out to be a surprisingly flaky bunch so far), just let me know. |

Hi Chrissy, I have no clue who you are. But sure, I'll help
Send me an email at seancallan at gmail.com and we can discuss it further. I already have a significant portion of the code developed as well as DB schemas. _________________ Pong 4 life!!1! |

Jeremy knows me...I'm not crazy, honest. And, if you've been to a USG tournament, I'm the blonde chick telling everyone what to do. |

You're not crazy? You're a girl, you're all crazy!
Don't remember any blondes at Copa Nova, except one and she wasn't bossing anyone around, she was competing/reffing.
Actually...were you sitting down at the table? Cause I believe the girl who was making fun of me was a blonde... _________________ Pong 4 life!!1! |

I should have said "more crazy than your standard girl".
At Copa Nova, I spent all day at the bracketing table. My hand was cramped for 2 days after the event. |

Meager is right. I'll do better next time. (Especially after I go back to Copa Nova and look up your skill/belt/weight, so I can determine my odds.) |
