Garrett Bontempo will be at the Capital Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Old Town Alexandria for a FREE seminar for kids 5 - 15 years of age.

This will be a takedowns seminar and will take place on May 5th during the usual class time (10:00am - 10:55am.) The first 1/2 hour will be without the gi (so kids should bring tee shirts to train in) and the second 1/2 hour will be with the gi.

This video contains footage from several grappling matches between Leo Vieira and Shaolin. Both are verterans of ADCC and the Mundials and are well-versed in both Gi and No-Gi Brazilian Jiu-JItsu. Leo is favored to win his weight class in this year's Abu Dhabi submission wrestling tournament and Shaolin has amassed an MMA record of 18-1. Both have very dynamic, aggressive styles of BJJ. These videos show Jiu-Jitsu black belt Fernando "Margarida" Pontes in action in 3 different Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Tournaments. In the first video he takes on Fabio Gurgel, who he finishes with one of his signature moves, the gi choke from the guard. A mundial champion in his own right, Fabio is also known for coaching Marcelo Garcia.

The second video shows a match that took place in Washington DC between Margarida and Mundial and ADCC champion, Marcio "Pe De Pano" Cruz. Margarida is able to pass Pe de Pano's guard, one of the most dangerous in BJJ, and win with an armbar. Pe de Pano is known for working upside down guard and cross guard and has victories over a who's who of grapplers, including Jeff Monson and Roger Gracie. He is currently fighting in the UFC but gained notoriety by dominating BJJ tournaments.

Finally, Margarida takes on Braulio "Carcara" Estima, a Gracie Barra black belt, and is DQ'd for slamming while caught in a triangle. Braulio has incredible sweeps from the De la Riva guard, where he can commonly launch his opponent over his head. Margarida shows some amazing base by avoiding many of Carcara's sweep attempts.

These three matches have some great material to study: between the guard work of Braulio, Pe De Pano and Margarida and Margarida's passing, there's a lot to learn. The first video shows participants in the CrossFit challenge performing the famous 300 workout in Capital Jiu-Jitsu's Alexandria headquarters. In the second video, CrossFit instructor Jerry Hill explains how to tranlsate the 300 workout to an indoor setting.

This workout was a right of passage for the actors playing Spartan roles in the movie 300. It's modified
slightly to accommodate a larger group, different abilities, and equipment availability.

25 Pullups
25 Kettlebell sumo deadlift highpulls
25 Pushups
25 Box Jumps
25 Floor wipers (1 left, 1 right = 1 rep)
25 Medicine ball squat clean and thruster

Discover how to use 12 of the exercises featured in the Spartan Training Yahoo video clip with actor Gerard Butler for your own personal indoor workout.

Unless you have a CrossFit training facility in your home town that's equipped like Gym Jones, the opportunity to duplicate the 300 Spartan training workout and its amazing results will be lost. Let's review the exercises the actors did in training, make appropriate substitutions for an indoor gym workout, and look at how to get the same results the actors did through short, intense workouts.

Here's the the rematch between Royce and Yoshida that took place in Pride under full MMA rules. Royce chose to fight without the gi and dominated the Olympic gold-medalist in Judo with Gracie Jiu-JItsu.

Here's a highlight video from Royce Gracie's early days in the UFC. This is what first put Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu on the map in the United States. Capital Jiu-Jitsu is the only Royce Gracie Network Chapter in the Washington DC area, and our students travel to Alexandria and Manassas from Arlington, Fairfax, Sterling and Southern Maryland to train Muay Thai, BJJ and MMA.
